Sylvia (not her real name), saw me for tinnitus. We had two EFT sessions in which we addressed the tinnitus directly, after having addressed other issues in the first session (3 in all). Here is a summary of what we tapped on.
Session 1
We tapped on sinus and eye congestion and pain. This was mainly in a direct approach, using the simplest classical EFT Tapping. We got both from about a 5 out of 10, where 10 is the worst, to a zero. My choice in this approach was to get Sylvia’s trust in using EFT and work on things that I know would yield a good result, as tinnitus, especially if it had not responded to anything at all otherwise, is something that EFT can completely help or even completely not help, with all sorts of variations in-between. An example of what we said was as simple as follows…
Setup:
“Even though I have this sinus congestion, I deeply love and accept myself just as I am”
Reminder:
“This sinus congestion”
Setup:
“Even though I have this pain and pressure in my left eye, I deeply love and accept myself just as I am”
Reminder:
“This pain and pressure in my left eye.”
We tapped on many other things, but these were the main things that prepared Sylvia for the second and third session.
Session 2
We tapped on all emotional aspects of the left ear buzzing, which was at a 10 out 10 (10 being the worst and 0 being non-existent). To give a few examples:
“What is my left ear trying to tell me?” (The answer was that her tinnitus was work-related, affecting mainly her left ear, which was closest to the damaging noise levels, and that she had to take action to protect her right ear).
“I choose to listen to what my ear is saying, so it does not have to say it so loudly any more. My ear is being loud, because I was not listening, and now I allow myself to listen.”
“My poor left ear and the trauma it went through”
“I love my left ear”
The buzzing changed to a whistling, which went back to a buzzing, but then it was a 7 out of 10 only. A 30% improvement was more than we had expected to start with. Having had a chronic disease myself for about 25 years, I know that even a 5% improvement is a great help for quality of life. Sylvia was delighted with the result.
Session 3
This session started with a buzzing of 10 out of 10 again in the left ear. We tapped on all physical aspects of the ear, using an Anatomy and Physiology book and muscle-testing to find out which parts of the ear were affected. We named each body part and tapped something like the following.
Setup: “This [ear part] challenge, I deeply love and accept my left ear”
Reminder:
“This [ear part] challenge.”
We went through an exhaustive list of ear parts, and this brought down the buzzing to a 7 out of 10. So I tried adding the approaches from the week before, or tapping along those lines, a bit like “I love my job” or “I don’t want to cause trouble”, and Sylvia was very relaxed and happy and relieved emotionally, however, the buzzing stayed at a 7 out of 10.
Sylvia’s budget did not allow for further sessions. We agreed between us that it seemed that no matter how we tapped on the ear buzzing, it went down from a 10 to 7. I taught her self-Tapping and suggested that she taps several times a day, whenever needed, on the buzzing to get it down to 7, and maybe in time, it can start going down further. She was very happy to do so, and delighted to be free of almost a third of the problem. I do wish we could do further sessions, but it is what it is, and I am grateful that she finally has a way to self-help the maddening noise inside her ear, plus a plan to deal with the issue at work, to protect her right ear.
Although EFT is often sought as a panacea of all ills, sometimes a little improvement can go a long way, and I am truly blessed and honored to have walked with Sylvia on this part of her journey.
