Effective Tinnitus Home Remedies: Seven Proven Fixes

To cure tinnitus or ringing in the ears, medical treatments are not always necessary. Home remedies can be just as effective. It is important to understand what triggers tinnitus before seeking treatment. Here are some suggested home remedies to consider for combating this annoying ear problem:

1. Avoid exposure to loud noises: If your tinnitus is caused by constant exposure to loud sounds or noises, such as a noisy working environment or listening to music at high volume, the first step in relieving the problem is to minimize the cause. Use ear plugs to avoid overexposure to loud noises and lower the volume of music as much as possible.

2. Get enough sleep: Our body heals and regenerates during sleep. Aim for 7 to 9 hours of sleep each night to help improve your tinnitus.

3. Prevent anemia: Some people find that anemia can worsen their tinnitus. Consuming foods that prevent anemia, such as eggs, red meat, seafood, whole grain cereals, raisins, dried figs, and other iron and vitamin B12-rich foods, can be helpful. Blackstrap molasses can also be taken to gain more energy and prevent anemia.

4. Eat a healthy diet: Consume foods rich in vitamins A, B, E, zinc, and amino acids, such as vegetables, raw fruits, sea vegetables, kelp, and garlic. Limit your intake of caffeine, alcohol, salt, sugary foods, tobacco products, saturated fats, dairy products, and processed foods, as they may aggravate your condition. Avoid aspirin and aspirin-like herbs, such as willow bark, meadowsweet, wintergreen, black haw, uva ursi, and cinchona, as they can trigger tinnitus. Additionally, avoid foods that contain soy flour, tofu, and soy milk, as they are high in phytic acid, which interferes with nutrient absorption.

5. Mask the annoying noise: When your tinnitus worsens, try masking the noise. Listen to music, an out-of-tune radio, or noise from a fan to combat the ringing or buzzing in your ears.

6. Relieve stress: Stress is a known trigger for tinnitus. Take time to relax when your tinnitus worsens due to stress. Consider spa treatments, yoga classes, acupuncture, meditation, or any activity that can reduce stress.

7. Herbal remedies: Some plants reported to improve tinnitus include gingko biloba, black cohosh, hawthorn, goldenseal, mustard seeds, and sesame seeds.

By following these suggestions, you may find relief from tinnitus without relying solely on medical treatments.
